Reports: Chelsea to return to Benfica for Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan
According to the Portuguese Website Abola, Chelsea have sent their European Scouts in recent days over to watch Nicolas Gaitan of Benfica with a view to activating his £27m release clause this summer to take him to Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year old has been at Benfica for five seasons now and has caught the attention of the Premier League leaders as they look to bolster their squad for next season.
Gaitan can play any of our attacking three positions although predominantly left-footed and is a member of the Argentine squad on a regular basis.
Another winger linked and another £27m purchase? You only have to look at Juan Cuadrado and his involvement since he signed for Chelsea to wonder if it's worth it.
I know that Jose Mourinho wants to work with three Goalkeepers and then two players for each position as his ideal squad and it's obvious that we need wingers.
At present with have Eden Hazard down the left with Willian and Juan Cuadrado on the right so it's clear we need another left sided player and I wonder if you believe that Gaitan is the answer?
The link to Benfica is obvious based on the transfer business Chelsea and the Portuguese side have had in recent seasons. It wouldn't surprise me if this one came off.
