Reports: Didier Drogba on the verge of signing for MLS side Montreal Impact
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is going to sign a deal with Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact according to ESPN. There were rumours linking the 37-year-old to the Indian Super League Champions Atletico de Kolkata.
Chicago fire head coach Frank Yallop had said that Drogba would make a decision in the next 48 hours and it looks like he will be heading to Canada to play in MLS. The rumoured offer made to Drogba is in the range of $3m per year and it looks like he would be offered an 18-month contract although he hasn't signed the contract yet but Atletico are out of the running.
Chicago Fire were favorites to land the Ivorian, but the former Galatasaray striker prefers Montreal over the windy American city. However, since Chicago had obtained Drogba's rights initially by filing a discovery claim, they have a right for some compensation if the 37-year-old moves to the Impact which seems to be in the range of over $100,000.
Wherever Drogba might land in the next few days, Atletico have just four days to get themselves a marquee player. The American link continues for Kolkata, with the defending Champions of the ISL being linked with former American captain Landon Donovan.
