Reports: Everton eye move for Manchester United star Morgan Schneiderlin
Ronald Koeman is reportedly interested in bringing Morgan Schneiderlin to Goodison Park this summer. Jose Mourinho is said to be looking to bring in a fresh central midfielder at Manchester United and Everton are looking to use this to convince Schneiderlin to join them.
Schneiderlin only joined Manchester United from Southampton last summer for £27 million. He’s played 29 matches for the club, scoring once. He was Van Gaal’s main central defensive player last season when Manchester United finished 5th in the Premier League.
Schneiderlin has already worked under new Everton boss, Ronald Koeman and the manager is said to be keen on bringing him to Goodison Park. Koeman was the reason the midfielder decided to stay at St Mary’s for a further season after a dispute with the club management in 2014. Schneiderlin was not happy with the club selling it’s star players and also letting Pochettino leave.
Southampton had signed Schneiderlin for a mere €1.5 million (£1.2 million) from Strasbourg in 2008 and he was at the club for 7 years. He played 230 games for the Saints and was a vital part of the team that gained promotion to the Premier League in 2012. He found the net just 14 times in his 7-year stint at St Mary’s but was hailed as one of the best defensive midfielders.
Ronald Koeman is said to have been handed a £100 million transfer war chest at Everton. Schneiderlin would reportedly cost Everton around £25 million should Manchester United decide to sell him. Recouping maximum of the £27 million they spent on him last summer would be the ideal thing for the Red Devils as they look to rebuild their squad this summer.
The Sunday People are reporting that Jose Mourinho is keen on signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and also Andre Gomes from Valencia. Michael Carrick has been handed a one-year contract extension and this has made Schneiderlin’s chances of making the starting XI even less. Meanwhile, Marouane Fellaini is said to have made up his mind already with the midfielder reportedly heading to Italy with Napoli, Lazio and AS Roma linked with the Belgian.
Schneiderlin’s future at Manchester United hangs in the balance right now, but with the French midfielder currently on duty for National Team at the EURO’s, a decision will be taken only by mid-July.
