Reports: Former Galactico eyeing a return to Real Madrid amidst tough competition from Premier League clubs

Senegal v Colombia: Group H - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia
James Rodriguez does not want to join Premier League clubs and wants a Real Madrid return.

What's the story?

According to the Spanish Media outlet, Marca, James Rodriguez is keen on returning to Real Madrid at the end of his loan spell with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Despite initial trouble under Niko Kovac and interest from other clubs in the winter transfer window, the Columbian playmaker is still with Bayern to complete his 2-year loan spell from Los Blancos.

In case you didn't know...

The 27-year-old Colombian midfielder is on loan from Real Madrid for 2 seasons with an option for Bayern Munich to make the deal permanent for just .€42 million.

Since his arrival in Munich, James has proven to be pivotal for Bayern Munich last season under former Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes but initially failed to be a regular starter so far under the tutelage of Niko Kovac.

But things are turning around slowly for James as he has impressed with his majestic performances recently. Despite featuring on only 7 Bundesliga games this season, James has managed to rack up 3 goals and 1 assist, while providing 1 assist in the Champions League.

The heart of the matter

There were widespread rumours regarding the fact that James Rodriguez is unhappy with current boss Kovac due to his game time. According to the report, James is not keen on joining a Premier League club and will want to fight it out at Real Madrid despite his future being uncertain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid's reported interest on superstars like Neymar Jr. and Hazard will only hamper James' decision but there is no shortage of options for the talented Columbian as he is being linked with Juventus.

Rumour rating: 6/10

There is no doubt that a player of James' calibre will be an asset to any team and Los Blancos will be keen to boost their team with much-needed reinforcements.

What's next?

It still remains to be seen how the player fits in Niko Kovac's tactics for the remainder of the season as they chase Dortmund in the Bundesliga and will face Liverpool in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Despite the limited game time this season, James Rodriguez's impact is matched by only a few players in the world. When he is on form, he can change the complexion of the tie in seconds and Kovac will likely to use him more as the season progresses.
