Reports: Former Liverpool player John Arne Riise to play in ISL season 2

John Arne Riise (right) says he wants to improve ISL with his experience

Next seasons ISL will feature former Liverpool star John Arne Riise. There was a rumour going around, but it was not confirmed until Riise’s wife, Louise Angelica Riise confirmed it yesterday on her blog.

Riise was part of 1999-00 AS Monaco side that won the Ligue 1 title. He has also won the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool. Then last year he played an important role for Cyprian club APOEL who won the Cypriot First Divison and Cypriot Cup. He has also played 110 times for Norway.

On Tuesday, Riise’s wife, Louise mentioned about his move to India in her blog. She says Riise wants to improve the Indian league with his experience.

"John Arne has now decided, and the choice is India. We look forward to two exciting years with new challenges and a new culture. India is a fairly new league which is on the rise. He wants to use his experience so that the league can be even greater," she wrote in her blog.

She also mentioned that final details will be confirmed by the end of the week. It is rumoured that he will be signed up by Sachin Tendulkar’s Kerala Blasters

"The agreement is quite fresh so I'm looking forward to getting more information at the end of this week :-) We have a long summer of waiting, then we do not leave until mid-August,” she added.

The Norwegian tweeted in response to a tweet posted on Riise’s timeline, which said that it is hard to understand why the sport is being dragged to India, but that it is financially lucrative. Riise answered it by saying that he is happy that he didn’t base his decision on what others thought.

The next edition of ISL will begin on October 3rd and the final will be played on December 20th.
