What's the story?

According to Marca, AC Milan's Gonzalo Higuain has accepted the offer from Chelsea and is all set to reunite with this his former boss, Maurizio Sarri, having previously played under him during his time at Napoli.

The report claims that the deal could be finalized in the coming hours, with Alvaro Morata looking to make a move away from Premier League. The Spaniard has been linked with a transfer to Sevilla.

In case you didn't know...

Chelsea have already completed the signing of Christian Pulisic, who will move at the end of the season, from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking of Higuain, Maurizio Sarri has first-hand knowledge of his style of play as he coached him at Napoli where the Argentine notched up 36 goals during a remarkable spell in Serie A in 2015/16 - the most number of goals by a player in a single season in Italy's top flight.

The heart of the matter...

There's no denying that Alvaro Morata has failed to make the grade at Chelsea and that his departure seems inevitable at the moment. Higuain is a prolific striker who can put an end to Chelsea's offensive woes.

Currently on loan at AC Milan from Juventus, the 31-year-old has scored six goals in 15 Serie A games this season. As per the Spanish outlet, Chelsea are willing to cough up €40 million and €8 million a year in wages to secure Higuain's services.

"It is difficult to manage a striker when he doesn’t score," said Milan sporting director Leonardo.

"Higuain must find the real himself, he is living in a different situation for him, he left Juventus and he is here on loan.

"He is very important for us and he knows it. We haven’t received any offer from Chelsea – no one has asked us for him and he didn’t ask to leave."

Rumour rating: 7/10

Marca is a pretty reliable source when it comes to football transfer news and rumours. Besides, Sarri has had a long-held interest in Higuain since his days at Napoli, so the report looks legitimate.
