Reports: ISL franchises look at Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp
A delegation from the Indian Super League (ISL) involving the organizers and the eight franchises are currently in England on an official visit to the ISL's partner, the English Premier League. Besides having interactions with the EPL and their clubs, the franchises are using the opportunity of being in England to interact with agents of coaches and players to bring them to India for the second season of the ISL.
And the speculation-loving British media has already started the rumour mill by throwing the names of seasoned managers Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp into the ring as candidates, who could be interested to coach in the ISL – Season 2, with the duo being linked to Chennaiyin FC, Delhi Dynamos FC and Mumbai City FC.
60-year-old Samuel 'Sam' Allardyce is currently the coach of EPL side West Ham United FC, but at the end of the season he is set to leave the Hammers and has yet to sign a contract with any club. Allardyce is mostly known for his successful time with Bolton Wanderers, but has also coached at Blackpool FC, Notts County, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.
68-year-old Harry Redknapp was managing EPL side Queens Park Rangers till February 3, 2015 and is a free agent now. In his coaching career, Harry also coached AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United, FC Portsmouth (twice), FC Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur before joining QPR. His time at Spurs is fondly remembered by the White Hart Lane faithful.
It will be interesting to see if Allardyce and/or Redknapp end-up coaching in the Indian Super League.
