Reports: Jordan Lukaku joins Newcastle United on loan
What's the story?
Reports are coming in from The Guardian that Romelu Lukaku's brother, Jordan Lukaku, has followed his brother to the Premier League, signing for Newcastle United on loan.
Jordan will remain with the Magpies for the rest of the season, and joins from Serie A side Lazio. Although the fee is still not clear at the moment, it is said that Newcastle will have the option to buy the Belgian at the end of the season.
In case you didn't know...
This season, Jordan has struggled with a knee injury, and has been mainly on the bench for Simone Inzaghi’s side, making just one Serie A start, and has made only 8 appearances this season.
Lukaku has been capped 8 times by Belgium, but was not part of last year's FIFA World Cup held in Russia. Jordan started his career with Belgian club Anderlecht, then made 83 appearances for Oostende, before his move to Lazio.
The heart of the matter
As reported in The Guardian, Jordan Lukaku is a left-back, and he will fill a position of need for Newcastle, with winger Matt Ritchie starting their last six Premier League matches as an auxiliary left-back, as first-choice Paul Dummett has suffered lingering hamstring problems.
With Jordan's arrival in England, the Lukaku brothers will join the list of rare brother duos playing in the same league.
What's next?
On the other hand, Romelu Lukaku has started very few Premier League games for Manchester United in recent times. After coming back from injury, Romelu Lukaku has only been able to make an impact as a substitute, and is slowing losing his position as the first choice striker to Marcus Rashford.
Lukaku would be getting a lot of opportunities in the upcoming games, and he must capitalise to set his career back on track.
It would be interesting to see the siblings square off against one another sometime in the future.
