Reports: Liverpool and Newcastle contemplate move for Stade Rennes defender Sega Coulibaly

Premier League pair Liverpool and Newcastle United are weighing up a summer bid for highly rated French prospect Sega Coulibaly, with the youngster attracting a large amount of interest from across Europe according to Sky Sports.

Liverpool are very much in the market for defenders this summer after recording one of the worst defensive records in the top eight of the Premier League last season, with Federico Fazio believed to be a target for the Reds, while Daniel Agger is potentially on his way out of the club.

Rodgers is concerned by a lack of talent progressing from within the club however and wants to bring in a youngster to educate to his preferred style of play and Coulibaly has caught his eye, despite the youngster having yet to have made his debut for Stade Rennes in Ligue 1.

Newcastle are also keen on bringing him to England after he impressed in Rennes youth system, but with the youngster expected to be given his opportunity in the first team next season, it is thought that he would prefer to remain in France, as opposed to starting again in a new country.

Should he decide to accept a move abroad however, the English duo will face competition for his signature, with Fiorentina and Sevilla also believed to be putting together bids for the talented 18-year-old.
