Reports: Liverpool targeting Southampton’s Lovren and Chelsea’s Bertrand
Liverpool are now targeting their third Southampton player of the summer with Dejan Lovren next on their list and Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand also a target, according to the Daily Express.
The Reds conceded 50 goals in the Premier League last season but still finished second due to their extremely aggressive and potent strikeforce scoring 101 goals in 38 games. They were incredible going forward but poor at the back and that is the area manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to fix this summer.
Lovren, 24, was a target for Rodgers last summer before he joined Southampton from Lyon but the interest in the Croatian central defender has now reignited as the Reds prepare for a third assault on Southampton after previously signing Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana this summer.
Bertrand is also a target for Rodgers, who needs more options in full-back areas. Jose Enrique was injured for most of last season and Aly Cissokho’s loan deal ended at the end of the season, leaving not a lot in reserve for Rodgers to choose from.
The Englishman started for Chelsea at left-back in the Champions League final in 2012, picking up a winners’ medal but failed to sustain his place in the side and was sent out on loan to Aston Villa midway through last season, where he performed well.
Liverpool target Bertrand last summer and are now looking at him again despite his third-choice status at Chelsea last season.
