Reports: Louis Van Gaal leaves out Memphis Depay and Borthwick-Jackson from FA Cup squad
It seems that Memphis Depay after losing the trust of his fans has also now lost the trust of his manager. According to several reports, the Dutch winger has not been included in the Matchday squad for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.
Depay signed for big money in the summer transfer window last year. He came in with a big reputation, after having taken the Eredivisie by storm in the 2014/15 season when he finished top scorer.
He was given the No 7 shirt in the hope that United had finally found the right heir to the famous jersey after Antonio Valencia and Angel Di Maria didn’t quite live up to the expectations.
But it turned out to be something of a nightmare season for the Dutch international. He only managed 2 goals in his 29 appearances in the Premier League. Despite his poor performances, Van Gaal picked him 58 times in his matchday squads.
But reports from multiple outlets suggest he has not got on the train that left from Stockport station. It looks like the manager has finally lost patience with his the player and has opted to leave him out of the final.
Former Manchester United striker, Dwight Yorke hopes United will give Depay another chance to prove himself next season. Speaking to ESPNFC he said, “It's a bit of a shame really, because when he came he came with a big reputation.”
“Coming out of Dutch football he'd done really well and scored a lot of goals, and he got off to the perfect start at Manchester United, Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out that way for him, and he's found it very difficult.”
“He's still a young man. He's only 22. Hopefully, this will be a learning curve, and he'll come back next year stronger and fitter and raring to go. But this will be a massive disappointment for him, not being in the squad for Wembley tomorrow.”
United’s young left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has also apparently been excluded. The youngster has really come of age this season and his filled in really well when the team’s regulars have been missing through injury or suspension.
But with both Darmian and Marcus Rojo having regained fitness, it looks like he will miss out on the trip to Wembley. Jackson started on Tuesday night in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth at home and was very impressive.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah is the other player to also not travel with the squad. Another youngster the manager has promoted to the first team during his tenure did a good job and played in various positions showing his capability in each one.
