Reports: Manchester United to gazump Valencia in the race for Argentina star Enzo Perez

Enzo Perez in action for the Argentine national team

Manchester United are looking to gatecrash a deal for Benfica star Enzo Perez, with financial uncertainty at Valencia preventing the club from making a move for the highly-rated midfielder.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Perez and it was thought that new manager Louis van Gaal was keeping tabs on the Benfica man prior to the World Cup.

However, Van Gaal was kept busy by proceedings at the prestigious tournament and Valencia took charge of the deal, making a move themselves for Perez. But, there has been boardroom difficulties at the Spanish side and they are having trouble pulling off a deal for the Argentina midfielder, who recently received Portugal’s Best Player award for his role in Benfica’s 2013/14 treble-winning campaign (though narrowly missed out on the Europa League trophy).

According to reports, the winger has a €25 million (£20m) buyout clause and Van Gaal is ready to bring him in to bolster his midfield.

The Red Devils have already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer, but Dutchman van Gaal is keen to strengthen his midfield even more.

Perez is highly-rated in Portugal and the Argentinian has been chased by a number of clubs over the last year. Manchester United’s scouts are working hard to pull off a deal for the talented midfielder.
