Reports: Manchester United and Arsenal on high-alert as Serie A target is set to be sold
What's the story?
According to the Italian media outlet, Corriere Dello Sport, AS Roma are willing to sell their prized asset and star performer, Cengiz Under, with a view of freeing funds and auditing their pockets for the next summer.
The 21-year-old has been a January target for Premier League giants, Manchester United and Arsenal.
In case you didn't know...
The Turkish international has been an exceptional performer for the Romans, scoring six and setting up another nine goals in just 25 appearances for the Serie A giants, this season.
AS Roma paid a transfer fee in the region of €13-14 million to secure the services of the right-winger from Turkish outfit, Istanbul Basaksehir. Since then, the youngster has made 57 appearances for the La Lupa, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.
Out of the other European elites interested in the player, the Gunners reportedly made the first bid to sign the winger in January, only to see the Romans rejecting the offer.
The heart of the matter
AS Roma are still in contention for the Champions League title, having a delicate 2-1 league over FC Porto in the round of 16 with the second-leg due in Portugal. However, the three-time Serie A winners are having their hopes of UCL qualification at the edge of the knife.
Eusebio Di Francesco's men currently occupy the fifth spot in the Serie A table, three points adrift of fourth-placed Inter Milan.
Cengiz Under is the least-paid player in Stadio Olimpico. Despite that, the Turkish international has a healthy relationship with the club. However, the Romans are still willing to let him go in order to balance their books, according to the report.
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich have been sniffing around the youngster since the last transfer window.
What's next?
Currently sidelined due to a muscle injury, the winger is out of action. However, with Roma reportedly set to offload him in the summer, it will be interesting to see which of the aforementioned clubs wins the race to secure the services of the talented winger.
