Reports: Manchester United enter race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
What’s the story?
Manchester United are interested in signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer and have already contacted striker’s agent regarding the transfer, according to L’Equipe. It is claimed that the 27-year-old will choose to move to Real Madrid, however, United have also approached his agent as they want to bring him to Old Trafford next season.
In case you didn’t know…
Aubameyang moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2013 from Saint-Etienne for €13 million. The Gabon international has scored 37 goals and assisted another five in 44 appearances for his club this season.
The 27-year-old has admitted that it is his dream to play for Real, revealing that he promised his late grandfather that he would play at Bernabeu someday.

The heart of the matter
The Old Trafford outfit has failed to live up to expectations this season. Despite signing big names like Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, United have failed to make it to the top 4 of the Premier League. Also, with Zlatan out for long-term due to injury, Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing an experienced striker like Aubameyang to Old Trafford next season.
However, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is still Mourinho’s first choice, but if United fail to win the Europa League and qualify for Champions League, then it might hinder the French international’s move to Old Trafford.
Hence, the Red Devils are keeping their options open by targeting as many players as possible in the next transfer window.
What’s next?
The Old Trafford outfit has planned to spend around £200m in the next transfer window and wants to bring some high-profile players next season. However, a lot of it depends on whether United win the Europa League or not.
Mourinho is keen on building a squad who can compete for the League title next year and signing of Aubameyang will be a step towards it.
Author’s Take
The Red Devils should try their best to win the Europa League final as most of their signings depend upon it. Also, the Gabon international is a clinical finisher, and he will be an excellent addition to the squad.
