What's the rumour?

According to reports from Evening Standard, Manchester United are prepared to pay huge amount of money to hire current Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

In case you didn't know...

Mauricio Pochettino has done a great job at Tottenham in this season so far. Despite missing key players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli due to injuries, Tottenham has managed to keep churning out victories. They are 3rd on the Premier League table, just five points league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

Pochettino also gave a demonstration of his good work with the squad as Spurs claimed a 3-0 win over Bundesliga leaders Borrusia Dortmund in the first leg of Champions League Round of 16.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are in a good run of form after the chaotic tenure of Jose Mourinho. Under the tutelage of caretaker manager, Ole Gunner Solskjaer, Manchester United has climbed their way up in the top four spot on the Premier League table.

The heart of the matter

There is growing support for the current interim manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer from the fans and players alike since he managed to revamp the squad after his arrival. But Manchester United were handed a reality check by Paris Saint-Germain as they defeated them at Old Trafford in the first leg of Champions League round of 16 clash.

Manchester United's executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, knows he is facing a critical few months in his tenure as the club failed to get their man in the transfer windows. But pressure on him has eased thanks to Ole Gunner Solskjaer's good showing after the chaotic tenure of Jose Mourinho.

According to the report, Woodward will not shy away from paying off a huge compensation fee to Tottenham if they try to sign Pochettino. Although Solskjaer's rising potential can be a problem for the board, they believe it is a good problem to have as it provides the club with more options.

Rumour rating: 5/10

It is no secret that the Spurs coach is one of the names in their wishlist for some time now and Manchester United will keep a close eye on him till the end of the season.

What's next?

With games against Chelsea, Liverpool and the return to PSG coming up in the next few weeks, Solskjaer’s future is a long way from being decided.

The first priority of United should be staying at top four in the Premier League and Solskjaer would point a compelling argument for himself if United lands in the top four after the season.
