Reports: Paris Saint-Germain eyeing a move for Serie A custodian

England v Italy - International Friendly
Is he the right choice?

What’s the rumour?

As per reports from Italian outlet L'Equipe (via Calciomercato), Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan this summer.

In case you didn't know...

Widely regarded as the heir to the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, Donnarumma has already played 122 games for AC Milan, despite being just 19 years of age. He has kept a remarkable 44 clean sheets in the process which proves the underlying talent he boasts.

His current contract with AC Milan runs out only in 2021 but he had tried to engineer a move away from the club last summer. His market value is around £36 million.

Donnarumma has kept 21 clean sheets in 50 appearances for The Rossoneri this campaign.

The heart of the matter

Major changes are expected at PSG following the departure of Unai Emery and they are prepared to kick-off their transfer activity by signing a replacement for their current no.1 Alphonse Areola.

They have also been linked with Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois but a move for the Belgian seems unlikely to materialise.

Thus they have prioritised the signing of Donnarumma and they hope to take advantage of AC Milan's financial situation, wherein they would be forced to sell one of their star players to abide with the Financial Fair Play regulations.

Not many reliable sources are reporting the same and things will get a lot clearer once the transfer window opens.

Author’s take

Donnarumma is one of the brightest prospects in world football at the moment and although he is still a teenager, he can prove to be the difference on the biggest stages. Thus a move to PSG would bode well for the player. AC Milan will try their best to keep hold of the starlet but PSG certainly have the financial muscle to make this happen.
