Reports: Paris Saint-German keen on signing Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg
Paris Saint-German has registered in their interest in Julian Draxler according to Sky Italia journalist, Di Marzio. The German winger had confirmed that a top European club was interested in signing him and it looks like the club he was referring to was PSG.
Draxler confirmed earlier this week in an exclusive interview with BILD that he wanted to leave Wolfsburg this summer. The German International also mentioned that he had a deal agreed with the club that he could leave if a big club came calling.
“I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs. It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another, if other clubs show interest.” said the midfielder to BILD.
Draxler was signed by Wolfsburg from German rivals, Schalke 04 last summer for a fee believed to be around €34 million. The midfielder has been a long time target for Arsenal and has been linked with them for the past 3-4 transfer windows. Hence, Arsenal were reported to be the club by many media outlets while Juventus were tipped to be the club according to reports in Italy.
Wolfsburg though, denied all claims of having agreed a verbal deal with Draxler or his representative in regards to letting the player leave if a big club came calling for him. They revealed that Julian Draxler has a release clause in his contract but that only comes into effect in the summer of 2017.
The club statement read:
VfL Wolfsburg wish to make it absolutely clear that at no time did those responsible at the club make either written nor oral commitments on the transfer of Julian Draxler within the current transfer period, which is due to end on August 31st, 2016. This is reiterated by a contractual release clause agreed upon with Julian Draxler and his management, which does not come into effect until summer 2017. VfL Wolfsburg will not be selling Julian Draxler during the course of the current transfer period.
But now it’s being reported by Di Marzio that Wolfsburg have made it clear to Draxler that he will be sold only if they receive a substantial bid for him. They have also made it clear to him that he will not be loaned out under any circumstances.
Unai Emery is said to be keen on signing a winger at PSG so that he can have Edinson Cavani playing mainly as a striker rather than a left winger – the position he played when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was playing as their main striker.
