Reports: PSG to poach highly-rated Premier League manager

FC Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg
Is Unai Emery's time at Paris Saint-Germain coming to an end?

What's the story?

Antonio Conte has endured a rocky start to his second season in charge of Chelsea, and talks of his departure have already begun to gain traction in England. A disappointing pre-season and transfer window were followed by a string of bad results and injuries to key players.

Conte's frustration at transfer proceedings has often been palpable, and reports have emerged that the Italian may be headed to Paris next year. The Chelsea boss may take the reins at Paris Saint-Germain if Unai Emery fails to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

In case you didn't know...

Antonio Conte began his managerial career at Arezzo in the Serie B, which was followed by spells at Bari, Atlanta and Siena. After helping Siena gain promotion to the Serie A, Conte was officially appointed as the head coach of Juventus. In his three seasons as Juventus manager, Conte won three consecutive Serie A titles and two Suppercoppa Italianas.

A short spell as the coach of the Italian national side preceded his appointment as Chelsea manager. Conte took over a Chelsea side that had finished tenth in the league and led them to the 2016-17 Premier League title.

Heart of the matter

Conte has been linked with several clubs over the summer, and while he did sign a new contract with Chelsea, it was merely a pay raise which did not extend his stay at the club. Conte also received flak for his treatment of Diego Costa, after the Italian informed Costa that his services were no longer needed over text.

Author's take

Conte has never seemed like he was in for the long run at Chelsea, and it would not be inconceivable to see him moving on to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain. PSG have invested heavily in acquiring a talented group of players, and while they have had large amounts of domestic success, European glory still evades them.

Unai Emery's failure to win the Ligue 1 last season may mean that his days at Les Parisiens are numbered.
