Reports: Real Madrid shocked as Juventus prepare bid to hijack Los Blancos star
What's the story?
According to Italian outlet, Football Italia, Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is considering joining former Galactico Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus are preparing a bid to secure the services of the Los Blancos star.
In case you didn't know...
The 30-year-old Brazilian played a pivotal role for Real Madrid over the last decade as they went on to win four UEFA Champions League in five years which includes three consecutive wins among other trophies.
Marcelo needs no introduction. Besides helping his team in defense, he is known for his flair and overlaps on the left wing. The defender can rip apart any defensive system in the world with his skills and trickery during overlaps.
Although Juventus has no requirement of a full back at the moment and has no problems in their rearguard, the team will welcome a player of Marcelo's calibre with open arms as it will only bolster their squad.
The heart of the matter
Los Blancos are enduring a tough season after the departures of their greatest goalscorers Cristiano Ronaldo and their manager Zinedine Zidane. Injuries, poor management, and poor form have resulted in a downfall in their performances, which are way below their standards at the moment.
Moreover, Sergio Reguilon has earned the trust of the current boss, Santiago Solari, by capitalizing on Marcelo's poor form and earned a place in the starting line up. This, in turn, only increases the chance of Marcelo's move towards Juventus.
According to the report, Juventus will offer €45m for Real Madrid left-back Marcelo. The interest is not new and it is believed that Cristiano Ronaldo had a major influence due to his friendship with Marcelo.
It is no secret that Marcelo and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo shared special chemistry both on and off the pitch at Real Madrid.
Rumour rating: 6/10
It still remains to be seen whether Juventus matches the asking price of Florentino Perez in the summer. Despite his current situation, Marcelo still remains untouchable and priceless for Los Blancos and it will take mammoth work from any team to take him away.
What's next?
Juventus endured a shock defeat in the Coppa Italia against Atlanta and will turn their sights on their European dream when they face Atletico Madrid in February.
On the other hand, it seems Santiago Solari's Real Madrid are back at their best. They will face Alaves in the La Liga at home before facing tough away fixtures against the likes of Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey, Atletico Madrid in the La Liga and Ajax in the Champions League.
