Rumours: Roma plot a summer loan move for Tottenham midfielder Paulinho
According to sources in Italy, Serie A high-flyers Roma are plotting a loan move for Paulinho in the summer, as reported by the Metro.
Roma are believed to be looking for a replacement for Miralem Pjanic, a player Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are rumoured to be keeping tabs on ahead of a summer bid.
Il Tempo claim that Roma will attempt to sign Paulinho on loan, with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.
Paulinho, who rose to prominance after starring in Brazil’s triumphant Confederations Cup campaign last summer, has failed to make a significant impact in his first season at Spurs, scoring just six goals in 33 appearances, but Tottenham will likely be reluctant to part with their £17 million Brazilian on a temporary basis.
Before getting injured against Stoke City, Paulinho showed glimpses of the player that lit up last year’s World Cup warm-up tournament with a commanding first half-display full of inventive flair. He’s failed to build upon that performance, however, with zero goals or assists since early February.
