What's the story?

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is keen to land Tottenham forward Harry Kane. He is on Ernesto Valverde’s wish list as the former Athletic Bilbao boss scours the transfer market for an able striker to complement Luis Suarez, who turns 32 later this month.

The Spanish outlet claims that RB Leipzig's Timo Werner, Eintracht Frankfurt's Luka Jovic, Celta Vigo's Maxi Gomez, Ajax's Kasper Dolberg and Krzysztof Piatek of Genoa are also being considered for the position.

In case you didn't know...

Munir El Haddadi has been linked with a move away from Barcelona and is expected to leave during the winter transfer window. The Catalan giants are looking to recompense for his exit in the coming weeks.

However, it is believed that the lack of funds could pose a serious problem and that a big-money acquisition can only take place at the end of the season.

The heart of the matter...

Despite a few hiccups, Barcelona is atop the La Liga standings presently, 10 points clear of their arch-rivals Real Madrid with 18 games played. Their manager Ernesto Valverde is already planning for the summer.

Harry Kane, who is the most desired name on his wish list, is easily the most expensive option of all.

He is a prolific striker for Spurs having managed 159 goals in 242 appearances for the Lilywhites. A number of clubs are in hot pursuit of his signature, though the North Londoners continue to play hardball.

Evidently, an astronomical fee would be required to lure him to the Camp Nou, particularly after Spurs' offer of a new deal worth £200,000-per-week, making Kane the highest paid player in the club’s history.

Rumour rating: 6/10

Mundo Deportivo is a reliable source when it comes to stories related to Barcelona. Although they have a star-studded squad at the moment, aside from Suarez, no player boasts the quality to lead the line. As such, their search for a prolific No.9 is well-justified.
