Revolutionary formation with Marko Marin in the side!

Following on from my last post asking the question if we should deploy David Luiz as a sweeper as part of a back three, I want to move forward and think of how that could work within the frame work of a formation for Chelsea going forward without John Terry.

Now by playing three at the back, it opens up a number of possibilities and questions but I believe in the 5&5 formation I am about to show you here.

I have decided that with Ashley Cole also being injured that we should get rid of playing full backs for the time being and use the extra man to bring Marko Marin into the side.

Here is how my proposed formation looks for the game against West Brom:

As you can see, Luiz would come in to play as a sweeper with Cahill and Ivanovic man marking either side of him. I wouldn’t say that they are to play narrow but without the ball, it’s important to remain compact to force teams into playing the ball wide.

Mikel and Ramires would remain sitting in front of our back line and would have the freedom to move out wide to close people down in defensive areas, knowing that we would have enough cover in the middle.

This is where the formation becomes exciting for me. As we all know, we currently play MAZACAR rotating positions throughout the duration of a game. At times, we will see Juan Mata start out wide and then come into the middle. In this formation, the introduction of Marko Marin on either wing would bring Mata inside to create and craft as he has been doing, but alongside Oscar.

Eden Hazard and Marko Marin would be the two that would interchange positions of our attacking four and the fifth member of our attack would be Torres or Sturridge.

Obviously, looking at the formation we could be vulnerable wide in defensive areas but surely by pushing these four attacking midfielders forward, the opposition would have no choice but to bring players back to cover our front five?

What do you think? Is there something in this for RDM to think about?
