Roberto Firmino says Mario Gotze a perfect fit for Liverpool

Mario Gotze has been linked with a move away from Munich

Roberto Firmino believes World Cup winner Mario Gotze would be a perfect fit at Liverpool. The German attacker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bavarian giants after having fallen down the pecking order, and Liverpool are looking the likeliest to bag the midfielder.

Gotze left Borussia Dortmund to join Bayern Munich in 2013, but hasn’t been able to make much of an impact with the German champions, featuring only 16 times this season across all competitions. The German International, who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final, has been said to be on the radar of Chelsea, Juventus and Liverpool, with the latter bring the favourites to get his signature with the prospects of reuniting with his former manager tilting things in favour of the Merseysiders, Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to Bild, Firmino said “Gotze, I still know well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern,'

"He has incredible qualities in attack. He would fit in well with us and will surely help us with his class as well."

Despite scoring twice in Bayern’s last league game of the season to see off Hanover 3-1, Gotze finds himself out of favour at the club and has reportedly been told by incoming manager, Carlo Ancelotti to ‘move elsewhere for regular action’. Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on reuniting with his former player at Anfield, with reports of a £20million bid on the cards.

Liverpool travel to Basel for the UEFA Europa League final, their second cup final this season, and will be hoping to stop Sevilla from clinching a third title in a row. A win would also guarantee the Merseyside team a Champions League spot next season, their only hope for some European action after finishing 8th in the Premier League.

Having already lost the League cup title in a penalty-shootout against Manchester City, Firmino said that the team is determined to give their best. “This is ultimately the most important game of the year for us. We have worked over the entire season so hard and deserve this final.”

“But Sevilla is probably the most difficult opponents we could have faced. But we have also beaten Dortmund and do not have to hide. In Basel we have to deliver our maximum again.”
