Scott Rogers' appointment as Liverpool Ladies coach leaves fans very confused

Brendon Rogers was axed as Liverpool manager following a dismal start to the league season

The Kop has got behind new manager Klopp and have all but banished thoughts of their former manager, Brendan Rodgers from their minds. However in a comical case of misunderstanding, many Liverpool fans were shocked to hear the seemingly mind-boggling news of Rogers’ appointment in the managerial hot seat!

Yes, you have read it right, Rogers. Scott Rogers has been appointed as the new manager of Liverpool Ladies.

With former Liverpool Ladies boss Matt Beard departing to take charge of American side Boston Breakers, assistant manager Rogers was promoted as the first team manager, much to his delight. There can be no doubt that Rogers got the job entirely on his own merits, but there is no denying the fact that the Reds' hierarchy have a mischievous sense of humour.

Appointing Rogers only weeks after the sacking of Rodgers was bound to befuddle some fans but, most of them saw the funny side and took to social media to express the moment of fright they had once they read or in this case, misread the news.

Brendan Rodgers was the manager of the Reds for three years from 2012-2015 and had previously managed sides like Swansea and Reading. Under Rodgers, Liverpool registered their highest league position in the last five years as they came runners-up behind Manchester City in the 2013-14 season. Under Rodger’s stewardship, Liverpool finished sixth in the League last term having secured 62 points in the campaign.

Klopp urges fans to get behind his team

After a dismal start to the current season which saw the reds pick up only 12 points from the eight games played, owner FSG decided to part ways with the Irish manager just before the International break and choose to appoint ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp in his stead.

The German manager had led Die Schwarzgelben to two Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League final which they eventually lost to German giants Bayern Munich and the Liverpool fans can hope to experience similar success with Klopp in charge at Anfield.

The Reds face Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday and Klopp has used the match day programme to rally the supporters ahead of the game by saying, “You the fans have a vital role to play in what we are looking to achieve. You are a very special group of supporters and the atmosphere you create is unique. I ask that you believe in this team and believe that together we can achieve great things. We must all stay together and look to enjoy the experience of following such a great club."

Liverpool sit second in group B, two points behind leaders Sion and the Reds will hope to get their first win of the Klopp era by defeating Rubin Kazan tonight.
