Rumour: Roma set to rival Manchester United for the signature of Yehven Konoplyanka
Manchester United will have to fend off competition from Roma if they are to secure the signature of Yehven Konoplyanka, according to talkSPORT.
It has been well publicised that Liverpool were interested in the left-winger for the last few months and Brendan Rodgers’ men came close to signing the Ukrainian in January before the deal fell through at the last minute after issues regarding negotiations.
The deal looked to have hit a few stumbling blocks, particularly in the money department with Dnipro asking for £15 million for Konoplyanka’s services at the time.
However, United expressed an interest in the tricky Ukraine international recently. The Manchester United hierarchy reportedly opened talks with Konoplyanka and looked as favourites to sign him.
However, the Red Devils will have to fend off competition from Italian giants Roma, who are also interested in the Dnipro man.
The 24-year-old is under contract until 2015 and valued at around £12m, and the Italians have the advantage of Champions League football against the English side.
United failed to qualify for the elite club competition and that is set to hamper their chances of signing the tricky Ukrainian.
