Roma sign Brazilian defender Maicon

Maicon leaves Manchester City

Roma have confirmed the signing of Maicon from Manchester City. The 31-year-old Brazilian defender, who moved to the Etihad Stadium from Inter Milan in August 2012 for a fee of £3 million, struggled to make an impact under former City boss Roberto Mancini.

Having made only 11 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, Mancini’s successor, Manuel Pellegrini, has made it clear to the defender that he has no future at the club. He also left him out of the squad for the club’s pre-season tour of South Africa.

Pellegrini said on the club’s official website: “Maicon didn’t come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year.”

The Serie A tweeted a picture that has officially confirmed the signing. The tweet read:

However, Maicon was one of the world’s top defenders during his time at Inter Milan scoring 16 goals in 176 league appearances.
