Ronaldinho - The Hub of the Brazilian midfield
I am a big fan of Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho. Despite still being as talented as ever, the 32 year-old attacking midfielder is not part of the Brazilian team, who are struggling to find goals. If they want to have any chance to win the 2014 World Cup at home, they must definitely add Ronaldinho to the team; for his experience if not for anything else.
Ronaldinho has been a World Cup winner under coach Felipe Scolari, and is familiar to the Joga Bonito style of football, having played with some of the most talented footballers of the century. He also played in the 2006 World Cup. However, he was dropped from the squad in 2010, and that decision has seemed a big mistake ever since – as agreed by many football pundits.
Prior to his move to Atletico Mineiro, his career was spread out over stints with Flamengo, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and A.C. Milan. With the Catalan club, he won his first Champions League in 2006 and the Ballon d’Or in 2005. The Verede Amarelo player, Ronaldinho was picked by Brazilian coach Mano Menezes on September 14, 2011, following Brazil’s quarter final exit from Copa America in 2011. However it wasn’t to be a permanent spell.
Brazil’s ranking has now dropped to number 12 – for the first time in the history of Brazilian football. Following Brazil’s loss to Mexico, at the Olympics, Mano Menezes’ position is under fire. Speculations have been raised about Felipe Scolari returning for another stint, but so far that has remained mere speculation.
As of now, the only solution viable is if Ronaldinho is called back to the Brazilian squad. He would be an inspiration to youngsters like Neymar,Ganso,Lucas Moura and Oscar, who need to carry the mantle for Brazil in the near future. If Brazil does not take this – what could be the final chance, they might have to wonder about bygones forever.
