Ronaldo sets a new record as Juventus seal the Serie A title
Whatโs the story?
As Juventus sealed the Serie A title last night, Cristiano Ronaldo in his maiden season at Italy became the first ever player to win the Serie A, La Liga and Serie A. The 34-year-old is the only player to have won the three major leagues.
An own goal and a goal by Alex Sandro was enough to see off ACF Fiorentina as Juventus put behind the disappointing UEFA Champions League exit behind them.
In case you didnโt know..
Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Juventus from Real Madrid for a staggering amount of โฌ117 million Euros. The 34-year-old struggled initially but ever since his first goal for Juve, he has been flourishing. The former Real Madrid ace has scored 19 goals and set up 8 goals for the Old Lady in Serie A.
The heart of the matter
Juventus were crowned the Italian champions as they defeated ACF Fiorentina 2-1 at Allianz Stadium. As Juventus clinched the title, Ronaldo became the first ever player to win the Premier League, La Liga and the Serie A.
Juventus just needed one point to wrap up the league and they have done that successfully as they retain their title after sealing all three points. An Alex Sandro goal and a low Ronaldo cross which was turned in after an own goal was sufficient for the Bianconeri to win their 8th Serie A title in a row.
The Portuguese has successfully won the Italian league in his maiden season and is the leading goal scorer for his side. Despite the Champions League debacle against Ajax, there is something to cheer up about for Ronaldo as he adds a new title to his list.
Ronaldo moved to Turin to put an end to Juventus' struggles in the UEFA Champions League but it seems like he can not do it all alone as problems for the Italian Champions lie deep within and just Ronaldo's addition to the squad does not guarantee a Champions League.
What's next?
The season is almost done and dusted after the Champions League exit for Ronaldo, but with 5 games left to play he may look forward to chasing Fabio Quagliarella whose goal tally stands at 22 to top the goal scoring charts in Italy.
