Rooney backed by Franz Beckenbauer to join Bayern Munich
The latest rumours to follow up the Paris Saint Germain link with Wayne Rooney is German giants Bayern Munich’s interest in the star striker. German legend Franz Beckenbauer has shown his support for the rumour of the possible move of the English international to the German side in the summer.
As the honorary president of Bayern, Beckenbauer insists that he will be delighted to see Wayne Rooney playing at Allianz Arena next season. This adds to the speculation of Rooney’s possible early exit from his contract with Manchester United.
“I would be very, very happy if Wayne Rooney decided to come to Bayern Munich. But is this a rumour or is it true? I don’t know!” said the German legend.
Wayne Rooney has been approached by many European giants with tempting offers following the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, in which he was benched for a lot of the time. Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich are the biggest clubs to approach the United striker.
Despite Sir Alex Ferguson having recently revealed his intentions to extend Rooney’s contract with the Red Devils, there is still an aura of uncertainty of his future.
Manchester United legend, Sir Bobby Charlton has said “I think that is a bit premature to question Rooney’s future.” He went on to say, “Sir Alex Ferguson came out and said that he had no intention of letting Wayne Rooney go anywhere. You have to abide by that and I believe it, 100%. He is a great player – why should we get rid of a great player?”
