Roy Keane blasts Mikel Arteta for not 'being brave'
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has hit out at Mikel Arteta for not being brave enough in possession of the ball against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup semi-final.
Arteta started in midfield for the Gunners who, at the time of Keane’s quotes, were drawn in a stalemate 0-0 with Championship side Wigan. The Latics are the current holders of the FA Cup and have beaten Manchester City to reach Wembley.
Keane was not impressed with the lack of chances Arsenal were creating and touched on Arteta’s performance as a probably reason for this.
Speaking on ITV Sport, Keane said: “When you’re playing for one of the bigger teams, but obviously when you’re playing a lesser team like today, he’ll get behind the ball.
“I don’t think it is that difficult if you’re a top player and you’re quick with your play and you’re aggressive. We don’t see too many players playing one-twos or just actually running at someone.
“[Mikel] Arteta is driving me crazy up here. He’s just sideways, backwards. You have got to pass the ball forward. That’s got to be your first option, particularly when you’re playing for one of the bigger teams.
“We don’t see enough of it and its very, very frustrating.”
Arteta has completed just 17 key passes in the Premier League this season.
