25-year-old star set to pen 4-year contract extension with Real Madrid after exit U-turn: Reports
Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is reportedly set to sign a four-year contract extension with Real Madrid. The 25-year-old's current contract with the Spanish giants is valid until June 30, 2025.
Earlier in the summer, Lunin hinted at a possible departure from Santiago Bernabeu to have more first-team opportunities. The shot-stopper joined Los Blancos from Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk in 2018 and was on loan to Leganes, Valladolid, and Oviedo till 2020.
With Thibaut Courtois being the first-choice goalkeeper for Real Madrid, Lunin has made only 48 appearances across competitions for the club. Thirty-one of those appearances came last season as Courtois was injured for most of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Andriy Lunin pulled off some impressive performances for Los Blancos last season and was nominated for France Football's annual best goalkeeper award - the Yashine Trophy. However, he didn't play in the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final as Courtois returned from injury.
Real Madrid and Andriy Lunin have now reached an agreement on a new four-year deal valid until June 2028, as reported by MARCA. The deal is expected to be officially announced soon, as per journalist Jose Felix Diaz.
Lunin will continue to fight for first-team opportunities with Thibaut Courtois, who has played in all five matches across competitions for the Spanish giants this season.
Although Andriy Lunin can still be sold, the potential contract extension will ensure he cannot leave for free.
Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing AC Milan star Mike Maignan
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, as per TEAMtalk. Los Blancos were keeping track of the 29-year-old last season following Thibaut Courtois' injury. However, they were unable to strike a deal.
With Kepa Arrizabalaga playing for AFC Bournemouth on loan from Chelsea following his one-season loan tenure at THE Bernabeu, the Spanish giants have reportedly reinstated their interest in Maignan. The French goalkeeper's contract with the Serie A club is valid until June 30, 2026.
Maignan's France teammates Aurelien Tchouameni and Kylian Mbappe have reportedly encouraged him to consider a move to Real Madrid to win more trophies.
Mike Maignan, who joined AC Milan in 2021 after a six-year tenure at Lille, maintained 15 clean sheets in 42 matches across competitions last season. He won the 2021–22 Serie A title with Milan while also being named Serie A's Best Goalkeeper for that season.
