27-year-old Liverpool star wants to leave Anfield this summer: Reports

Liverpool star Nathaniel Phillips is reportedly keen to secure a move away from his current club in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Phillips, 27, has recently dropped down in the Reds' pecking order as he spent the entire 2023-24 season out on loan at two clubs. After a below-par stint at Celtic, he joined Cardiff City and helped the EFL Championship side register four shutouts in 18 league matches.

Now, according to Football Insider, Liverpool are keen to cash in on Phillips before the start of the upcoming 2024-25 season. They are hoping to raise money to add to their current transfer kitty in the future.

Phillips, who has been at the Anfield outfit since 2016, has made 29 appearances for Liverpool with 20 of them coming in the 2020-21 campaign. He has scored one goal and laid out as many assist for his club.

Should Arne Slot's team lose Phillips this summer, they would have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah as centre-back options. Hence, they are likely to rope in a new defender soon, with Goncalo Inacio reportedly one of their top targets.

Liverpool urged to sign ex-Everton attacker

Speaking on Top Offshore Casinos, ex-Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann claimed that Liverpool should launch a move to rope in Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon. He said (h/t Mirror):

"No one really knew what to expect when Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah. On the other hand, we've seen Anthony Gordon have a huge impact in the Premier League. He did so at Everton even when they were struggling and after a tough start at Newcastle, he has battled through and he's one of their best players now."

Sharing his two cents on the Reds' links with Gordon, Hamann added:

"I read somewhere that Liverpool is his boyhood club and I think it would be a brilliant signing, it also looks like Newcastle might need to sell some players this summer too. So Gordon would be great."

Hamann, who represented the Reds 283 times as a player, continued:

"But then obviously it depends on what Salah does. It's been said for the last few years that it's his last season and that he's going to go in the summer. So obviously we need to find out and see what's happening but I think Gordon would be a brilliant signing because obviously going forward, if you've got pace, it just changes games."

Gordon, 23, found the back of the opposition net 12 times and laid out 11 assists in 48 games in all competitions for Newcastle last season.

Mohamed Salah, on the other hand, scored 25 goals and contributed 14 assists in 44 overall outings for the Reds in the 2023-24 season.
