Argentina duo driving Julian Alvarez crazy by calling him every day to join Atletico Madrid as Manchester City exit looks imminent: Reports

Argentina stars Rodrigo De Paul and Nahuel Molina are reportedly calling Manchester City star Julian Alvarez on a daily basis to convince him to join Atletico Madrid. David Ornstein recently reported that the aforementioned Spanish outfit are closing in on signing the 24-year-old attacker (via One Football).

Fans of the club will be delighted to learn that Alvarez's national team colleagues are also applying pressure to see the move through. To date, the Cityzens striker has played 30 matches across competitions with De Paul for La Albiceleste, bagging one joint goal contribution.

Meanwhile, he's shared the pitch on 32 occasions with Molina for Argentina without registering a joint goal contribution. A move away for Alvarez seems to stem from the fact that he isn't a guaranteed starter at the Etihad.

With Erling Haaland occupying the number nine position, it is highly unlikely that the former River Plate star will play there. Moreover, the likes of Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Jeremy Doku will all compete for minutes on the flanks.

This would seriously curtail Alvarez's minutes and therefore, an exit seems like a good option. To date, he's made 103 appearances across competitions for Manchester City, bagging 36 goals and 18 assists.

The attacker has won the Premier League twice and the UEFA Champions League trophy once, among other honors, in his two years at Manchester. With four years left on his contract at the Etihad, Alvarez will not be a cheap buy.

Despite David Ornstein's suggestions that Julian Alvarez could be headed to Atletico Madrid, Football Transfers claim that Arsenal are still in the race. According to this report, the Gunners are willing to meet Manchester City's £70 million valuation for the player.

However, the aforementioned publication clarifies that Pep Guardiola and Co., are unlikely to sanction a sale without an able replacement in place. The Gunners could certainly do with somebody like Alvarez, given they are looking for an out-and-out number nine this summer.

At the moment, Kai Havertz is expected to lead the line at the start of the season, while Gabriel Jesus could play second-fiddle to the German. Arsenal have also been linked with other strikers in the transfer market, including Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli number nine Victor Osimhen (via Football London).
