Arsenal battling Barcelona in race to sign 22-year-old French midfielder as replacement for Thomas Partey: Reports

Arsenal are prepared to battle Barcelona for the signing of French midfielder Lucien Agoume, according to Football Transfers. The Sevilla star has caught the eye with his displays since moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in August.

Barcelona have identified France under-21 international Agoume as a potential addition to their squad. The 22-year-old midfielder is capable of playing in a variety of roles and has been likened to former France international Paul Pogba in this regard.

Football Transfers have claimed that Arsenal are currently leading the race for Agoume as they have a pathway set out for the former Inter Milan man. The Gunners intend for the midfielder to serve as their long-term replacement for Thomas Partey, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Sevilla will reportedly not request a huge fee for the midfielder, who has made 17 appearances for them. The LaLiga side paid €4 million to sign him permanently from Inter Milan after he spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan with them.

The emergence of the likes of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado at Barcelona may make Agoume favour a move to Arsenal. The youngster is said to be keen on Premier League experience and has a fan in Mikel Arteta, further strengthening the possibility of an Arsenal switch.
