Arsenal consider appointing sporting director who discovered Kylian Mbappe as replacement for Edu: Reports

Arsenal have seemingly shortlisted a candidate to replace Edu Gaspar as the club's sporting director. The former Gunners star announced that he would be leaving the Emirates in early November, leaving the north London side without a person in this role.

Now, Sky Sports claim that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Football Advisor Luis Campos (via The Sun). He arrived at the Parc des Princes in 2022 and has been responsible for signing talented players like Ousmane Dembele and Randal Kolo Muani, among others.

Before taking up this role at PSG, Campos established himself as a top sporting director during his spell with Monaco from 2013 to 2016. At the time, the Portuguese helped the Ligue 1 side sign the likes of Bernardo Silva, Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez.

Moreover, he was at the club during the arrival of Kylian Mbappe into the Monaco academy in 2013. With Campos contracted at PSG till 2025, it remains to be seen if the Gunners will look to rope him in before the winter or wait till the end of the season.

With the January transfer window around the corner and Arsenal nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, fans will be hoping for a couple of signings. Moreover, some may say that additions are crucial this time around, given the number of injury issues at the Emirates.

Martin Odegaard only returned to action before the international break after spending two months on the sidelines due to issues with fitness. Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White are injured, while there are concerns over Bukayo Saka's and Declan Rice's fitness.

Arsenal posed another worry as versatile attacker is forced off during international duty

Leandro Trossard

Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard was forced off during Belgium's 1-0 Nations League defeat to Israel on Sunday (November 17). This adds to the already existing woes for the Gunners, particularly because of the versatility that the former Brighton man offers.

Not only can Trossard be deployed on the flanks, but he can also play in an attacking midfield role when needed. So far this campaign, the 29-year-old has made 15 appearances across competitions for his club side, bagging two goals and an assist.

Trossard started Belgium's latest match but was replaced in the 37th minute of the game by compatriot Johan Bakayoko. According to Mirror, he wasn't moving particularly well before being substituted in this game, while the exact reason for the withdrawal remains uncertain.
