Arsenal to face tough competition from Manchester City for Premier League star - Reports
Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer.
Bruno has been an excellent addition to Newcastle since arriving from Olympique Lyon in January 2022 for a reported fee of over €42 million. He has since made 101 appearances for the Magpies and contributed 14 goals and 14 assists. His tenacity in midfield and ability on the ball have garnered plenty of attention.
As per The Telegraph, Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing Guimaraes this summer. His contract with Newcastle expires in 2028 and he has a release clause worth £100 million. However, both sides will look to negotiate a lower fee.
Arsenal are dealing with uncertain futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Partey has made just 11 appearances across competitions this season due to injuries and his contract expires in 2025. Jorginho, meanwhile, has made 34 appearances but his contract expires in the summer.
Manchester City, on the other hand, are looking at potential departures of Kalvin Phillips and Bernardo Silva. Phillips is currently on loan at West Ham United and is expected to leave City in search of playing time. Silva, meanwhile, has been a key player for the Cityzens but linked with a departure since last summer.
Hence, both sides are looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer, with Guimaraes being their target. However, the Brazilian has indicated multiple times that he wants to stay with Newcastle.
