Arsenal keeping tabs on Ligue 1 striker ahead of a potential January move: ReportsĀ

Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Lille striker Jonathan David as the search is on to bring in a new striker in the January transfer window. This is as per CaughtOffSide, who claim that the Gunners are prioritizing the Canada international's signing for January.

David has started the new season well, bagging three goals in seven appearances across competitions for his French employers. These strikes come after a wonderful 2023/24 campaign, which saw the 24-year-old find the net on 26 occasions in 47 matches across competitions.

The Gunners were linked with a host of strikers in the summer, including Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney, among others. However, they failed to sign a player in this role and Kai Havertz currently leads the line at the Emirates.

Some fans and pundits have been calling for the signing of a new striker, with Gabriel Jesus, the only natural player, left to play this position. Moreover, the Brazil international has struggled of late, scoring four goals in 27 Premier League matches last season.

Therefore, a new striker like David joining Arsenal is a real possibility. However, this report clarifies that the Gunners will have to see off competition from English rivals Liverpool to the player's signature.

The move would also be brilliant for the young striker, given that a starting position is up for grabs at the Emirates. He would also earn himself the chance to compete for top honors like the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League with Mikel Arteta's team.

Lastly, this report adds that the Gunners are also looking at other options, including Ajax forward Brian Brobbey.

Arsenal are said to be interested in acquiring the services of Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram in the near future. According to The Sun, the Gunners are willing to enter a swap deal with the Italian club that will see Gabriel Jesus going the other way.

However, that won't just be it; this report states that the North London outfit would have to pay a substantial transfer fee on top of it. If Thuram is to be sold in early 2025, he would still have over three years left on his current deal.

The France international has hit the ground running in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign, bagging four goals and two assists in three appearances. Overall, he's played 49 matches for Inter Milan, scoring 19 goals and 16 assists.
