Arsenal and Liverpool among 3 Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Bayern Munich star: Reports
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Leroy Sane next summer. The German winger's contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer.
Sane has been a key player for Bayern since arriving from Manchester City in 2020. He's contributed 48 goals and 50 assists in 175 games, winning multiple trophies. However, his contract is set to expire next summer, which has put multiple European clubs on alert, as per Football Insider (via Caught Offside).
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl recently said about Sane's contract situation (via Bavarian Football Works):
“Regarding Leroy, the first thing now is to make sure he’s back on the pitch in good health soon. That’s our focus at the moment, and we’re looking forward to it, because Leroy can, with his tremendous qualities, make the difference at every moment on the pitch.
"He’s entering the last year of his contract, so we will have calm discussions about his future in the coming months. We all know that he’s a factor in winning titles.”
If Sane doesn't sign a new contract, he will be open to pre-contract talks with foreign clubs in January for a free transfer next summer. Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs highly interested in signing him.
Sane also has Premier League experience, having won it twice with Manchester City during his four-year spell at the club.
Liverpool stumble while Arsenal pick up a huge win as they aim to catch Manchester City
The Premier League 2024-25 season is four games in and we've already seen some big results. Manchester City have won a record four titles in a row and are looking dominant this season as well. They have won all four of their games so far, being the only Premier League club to do so.
Arsenal, who competed with City for the title in the last two seasons, are two points behind them with three wins and one draw. They picked up a huge 1-0 victory over rivals Tottenham Hotspur away in the North London Derby on Sunday, September 15. Gabriel Magalhaes' 64th-minute header was enough to secure all three points.
Liverpool, meanwhile, who had won their first three games, suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Anfield against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored in the 72nd minute to help Forest register their first win at Anfield since 1969. Liverpool are fourth in the table, one point behind Arsenal.
