Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea involved in transfer battle to sign Euro 2024 breakout star: Reports
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are reportedly all interested in signing Riccardo Calafiori, who has had a breakout UEFA Euro 2024 campaign so far. Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are also in the race to sign the Italy defender.
Calafiori had an excellent 2023-24 season with Bologna. He made 37 appearances across competitions and helped the qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1964. He has continued his form with Italy at Euro 2024 in the group stages.
Azzurri won their opening game against Albania before losing to Spain and then drawing against Croatia. Calafiori performed well in all three games despite an unfortunate own goal against La Roja. He also provided an assist for Italy's incredible 98th-minute equaliser scored by Mattia Zaccagni against Croatia.
His performances have seen the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham interested in signing him, as per Sport Bible. Juventus currently lead the race to sign the defender valued at €50 million. As per Tuttosport, Spurs are also preparing to make an offer for the Italian.
For Arsenal, meanwhile, Jakub Kiwior's future is under speculation with Trevoh Chalobah in the same boat at Chelsea. Hence, the two London rivals could battle it out to make an attempt to sign Calafiori.
The 22-year-old is left-footed and along with his excellent defending, he is known for his comfort on the ball and his penetrating runs through midfield.
Arsenal and Chelsea target to cost over £115 million: Reports
As per The Guardian, Newcastle United have put up a massive value over striker Alekzander Isak amidst interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. They would want a fee higher than the record £115 million fee the Blues paid to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.
This fee, however, is more to deter away potential suitors rather than an actual number as Newcastle are unwilling to sell Isak. The Swede has been excellent for them, scoring 35 goals and providing five assists in 67 games since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022. He had an excellent 2023-24 season, recording 21 goals and two assists in 30 Premier League games.
Arsenal and Chelsea, meanwhile, are both on the lookout for attackers. Gabriel Jesus registered just four goals and five assists in 27 league games for the Gunners last season. On the other hand, Nicolas Jackson scored 14 goals and contributed five assists in 35 league games.
