Arsenal set to make surprise move for Newcastle United star this month - Reports
Arsenal are reportedly going to make a surprise move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the summer transfer window. This is as per Chronicle Live, who believe that the Slovakia international's time at St James' Park is running out (via CaughtOffSide).
With only a year left on his current deal, it seems like the perfect time for the Magpies to cash in on the 35-year-old shot-stopper. The Gunners' interest in Dubravka stems from worries over Aaron Ramsdale's future at the Emirates Stadium.
The England international lost his starting place to David Raya last season, which has resulted in reports linking Ramsdale with a move away from north London. Last year, the 26-year-old made just six Premier League appearances and a similar situation was set to continue this campaign as well.
Therefore, Arsenal will need a strong second-choice goalkeeper should Ramsdale leave the club. If Raya is injured, the Newcastle United man is an experienced and a safe enough option to have on the bench.
He joined the Magpies on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 and has made a total of 152 Premier League appearances, keeping 43 clean sheets in the process.
Should he choose to remain with his current employers, Dubravka is well behind the pecking order. Nick Pope is seemingly the first choice, and with Odysseas Vlachodimos joining from Nottingham Forest, the Slovakian has dropped further back.
A move to north London could see him compete in the UEFA Champions League should there be an injury to Raya during the course of the season.
Fabrizio Romano shares worrying update on Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale's situation
Arsenal are preparing for the start of the new Premier League season, and it looks as though goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is looking for a club where he plays regularly.
However, Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that talks over a move for the shot-stopper have gone fairly quiet. Speaking to CaughtOffside as part of his Daily Briefing, the transfer expert said:
"It's completely quiet now with regards to Aaron Ramsdale. There have been no new movements or updates for a while now, so we will have to see what happens later in the window, based on a goalkeepers domino."
In recent days, Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in the Arsenal goalkeeper (via The Sun). So far in his career at the Emirates, Ramsdale has played 89 matches across competitions for the Gunners, managing to keep 32 clean sheets.
