Arsenal star linked with surprise move to Turkish giants: Reports
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Turkish outfit Besiktas ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Jorginho, who joined the Gunners from Chelsea in a £12 million switch in January 2023, has dropped down his side's pecking order this campaign. He has made just seven appearances across competitions so far.
Now, according to Spanish website Fichajes.net, Besiktas are interested in signing the 32-year-old former Napoli man next January. They deem the Italian as a player who can bring experience to their dressing room.
With Jorginho's Arsenal contract set to expire next June, the Gunners could look to sell the player for a fee in the winter transfer window. Besiktas are also prepared to dish out a decent transfer fee to lure the Italian.
Jorginho, who finished third in the 2021 Ballon d'Or rankings, has started 34 of his 59 overall appearances for Arsenal. The 32-year-old holding midfielder has scored one goal and laid out three assists for them so far.
Arsenal star labelled worst signing of season
Speaking to Metro, former Liverpool star Stan Collymore slammed Chelsea loanee Raheem Sterling for his sub-par performances for the Gunners this campaign. The Englishman said:
"Raheem Sterling has been a massive disappointment. He came in and said he was going to give the club his best work, but that hasn't happened. He's arguably stunk the place out so far."
Collymore, who represented England three times as a player, added:
"He's definitely one of the flops of the season having promised to do his best work at Arsenal. He's an experienced player who has won everything there is to win, he was expected to push the dressing room up another level and he hasn't done that."
Claiming that the north London side should have not let go of Emile Smith Rowe in a potential £34 million deal earlier this summer, Collymore said:
"Emile Smith Rowe's move to Fulham also shows that Arsenal haven't exactly been amazing in who they've let go, because he's done very well for Fulham. Especially with the injury to Martin Odegaard as well, Smith Rowe could've slotted into that position."
Sterling, who will turn 30 next month, has scored just one goal and registered one assist in eight total appearances for the Gunners this season.
Smith Rowe, on the other hand, has contributed three goals and two assists in 11 Premier League matches for Fulham in the ongoing term.
