Arsenal subject to transfer windfall from deal involving Chelsea star's move to recently promoted PL side - Reports
Arsenal are expected to receive a windfall should Chelsea sell youngster Omari Hutchinson to Ipswich Town, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. He started his career at the Gunners' academy.
The player is currently the subject of transfer interest from recently promoted side Ipswich Town. They are planning on signing him on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell last season.
Hutchinson enjoyed a remarkable 2023-24 campaign with the Tractor Boys in the EFL Championship, registering 10 goals and six assists in 44 league games. He helped Kieran McKenna's men secure promotion back to the Premier League.
Ipswich are currently exploring a permanent transfer for the 20-year-old left-footed winger from parent club Chelsea this summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the newly promoted club is keen on a £22 million move for Hutchinson.
The Italian journalist further revealed that Hutchinson's former club Arsenal could also receive a portion of any possible sale. They inserted a sell-on clause in the player's transfer to Chelsea in 2022.
It will be interesting to see if he eventually secures a permanent move away from Chelsea this summer.
When Ipswich Town manager heaped praise on Chelsea star last season
Kieran McKenna played a key role in helping Blues forward Hutchinson settle during his loan spell with the Tractor Boys last season.
The youngster enjoyed an impressive second half of the 2023-24 campaign despite being used sparingly during the first half of the season. He ended up scoring a total of 11 goals and registering six assists in 50 games across competitions. He helped McKenna's team finish second in the championship and thus automatically secure promotion to the Premier League.
In an interview with Sky Sports back in April this year, head coach, McKenna was quick to admit the huge potential that the Blues forward possesses. He said:
"He's given everything you'd want from a loan player and more. He's young and has high potential, but he hadn't played any senior football before this season."
He continued:
"He's come into the club with the right application and picked things up really quickly about what it takes to succeed. That has endeared him to the senior players right away, and he's built that as the season has gone on.
"He's hitting a good level but he's still really young. It's not going to be a linear journey from here, but he's got really high potential and a really good mentality towards achieving that potential."
Hutchinson did make two senior appearances for Chelsea before leaving.
