Arsenal target move to sign another ex-Manchester City after snapping up Raheem Sterling: Reports

Arsenal are planning a move for former Manchester City forward Leroy Sane, according to GIVEMESPORT (via CaughtOffside). The Gunners added to their squad this summer by signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

Mikel Arteta has made multiple changes to his squad since taking charge at the Emirates in 2019. The north London side have enjoyed a steady rise under the Spanish manager so far.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League in back-to-back campaigns and are expected to battle for the league this season as well. They recently rewarded Arteta with a new deal as an acknowledgement of his good work.

The Spaniard is putting together plans for the future and one area that he is seeking improvement in is the final third. The Gunners scored 91 times in 38 games in the league last season but still lost out to City in the title race.

Arteta remains determined to transform his team into one of the best in Europe and has identified Sane as his next target. Although Sterling made the short trip across London this summer on loan, he is unlikely to be in Arsenal's long-term plans.

The German could be an upgrade on the 29-year-old and the Gunners are plotting to bring him back to England in 2025. The player is equally adept at playing across the frontline and his versatility will suit Arteta's tactics. Interestingly, the 28-year-old's contract with Bayern Munich expires in less than a year and he hasn't signed a new deal yet.

Sane registered 10 goals and 13 assists from 42 games across competitions for the Bavarians last campaign. However, he is yet to feature under Vincent Kompany this season following a groin surgery over the summer.

Can Leroy Sane improve Arsenal?

Leroy Sane already has experience of playing in England with Manchester City. The German spent four seasons at the Etihad, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup.

Sane appeared 135 times across competitions for Pep Guardiola's team, scoring 39 goals and setting up 43 more. Arsenal are convinced that the player could hit the ground running with a return to familiar settings.

The Gunners were linked with the 28-year-old over the summer, but a move failed to materialize. Sane is reportedly set to enter contract talks with Bayern Munich but may have to take a pay cut to extend his stay.

That could open up an opportunity for the north London side to prise him away on a Bosman move next summer. However, Arsenal will reportedly face competition from Newcastle United for the German forward.
