Arsenal youngster undergoing medical ahead of Manchester United move - Reports
Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin is undergoing his medicals ahead of completing the first part of his move to Manchester United, as per football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The young Dane has agreed on terms to swap London for Manchester this summer.
Obi-Martin was one of the standout stars in youth football in England in 2023-24 literally and figuratively. Standing at over six feet tall at just 16, the striker towered above his opponents in size and output as he represented the Gunners' under-18 side. Obi-Martin plundered 32 goals for the Arsenal U18 side last term, breaking the club's record for goals at that level in a single season.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the teenager has agreed to join Manchester United, and his latest report indicates that the young striker is undergoing medicals. The transfer will be confirmed in due course as a result of the Premier League's rules, which stipulate great scrutiny in the transfer of youngsters.
The five-stage process introduced by the Premier League in 2016 will see the deal take some weeks until it is ratified. For the first stage, the Red Devils have to submit a completed registration form to the Premier League for the 16-year-old. The second stage will involve an independent third party interviewing the player, his parents and both clubs.
The third stage will see the parents and the club sign a declaration that financial inducements were not involved in the deal. The fourth stage will see another third party recommend the move for approval or rejection by the Premier League. The fifth and final stage will be the league choosing whether or not to approve the transfer.
Obi-Martin was wanted by multiple clubs in England and Germany before eventually choosing to join Manchester United from Arsenal. The youngster joins the likes of fellow youth stars Ryan McAidoo and Rio Ngumoha in switching clubs this summer.
