Atletico Madrid keen on signing midfielder who played for Manchester United last season - Reports
According to Santi Aouna, Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat has been offered to Atletico Madrid. The defensive midfielder spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Manchester United and is looking for a new club.
The report states that Diego Simeone likes Amrabat's profile. The Moroccan midfielder came to prominence after his inspiring performances during FIFA World Cup 2022 where the Atlas Lions reached the semi-finals of the competition.
Amrabat secured a loan move to Manchester United following impressive performances for Fiorentina. His stint at United, though, was underwhelming in a calamitous season and the Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League in 2023-24. Amrabat made 30 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side.
That said, Amrabat was rock solid in the FA Cup final win against Manchester City. Yet, United opted against making his move permanent. The midfielder is currently in the final year of his deal with Fiorentina but has reportedly communicated his desire to leave.
Atletico Madrid have now emerged as a potential destination. Los Rojiblancos have already made a statement move in the summer transfer market. They brought in Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
Amrabat's potential arrival could add more solidity to a midfield and the Moroccan could be a good fit alongside Rodrigo De Paul. The 27-year-old is valued at €22 million by Transfermarkt.
Manchester United have gotten in touch with former Atletico Madrid defender: Fabrizio Romano
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United got in touch with former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso. The Red Devils have already signed Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Hermoso, though, could be a valuable addition as he is a left-footed centre-back, a profile United have reportedly been searching for. Romano has now told GiveMeSport:
"They spoke to the agents of Mario Hermoso, but at the moment, still nothing advanced. He's still available as a free agent, so Hermoso would love to go to Manchester United."
Brought up in Real Madrid's academy, the five-cap Spain international made his La Liga debut for Espanyol. He joined Atletico in 2019 and made 174 appearances for the club.
Hermoso is available as a free agent, meaning United won't have financial issues to sign him. Both Yoro and De Ligt are right-footed and Mazraoui is a right-back. Hence, Hermoso could provide the left-footed option that Erik ten Hag is looking to add alongside Lisandro Martinez. However, as Romano reported, nothing is advanced.
