Barcelona among 3 clubs interested in signing Arsenal midfielder: Reports

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs, including La Liga giants Barcelona. The 31-year-old could be set for an exit from the Gunners if reports are to be believed.

Partey's stock at the Emirates has fallen dramatically. He established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet after signing for Mikel Arteta's side from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

With the signings of Declan Rice last season and Mikel Merino this summer, the Ghana international finds himself on the fringes.

According to Caught Offside, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Partey to add some physicality to their midfield. Juventus are also reportedly interested in the 31-year-old as are Saudi Pro League sides Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal.

Barcelona, whose financial struggles are well documented, are looking at Partey's contract situation. The 31-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates. If a new contract with Arsenal is not agreed, Barcelona can agree to sign him on a free transfer in January itself.

Although Partey's preference is unknown, he shares a close bond with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. The Argentine tactician handed the defensive midfielder his senior team debut in 2013. Partey is familiar with Simeone, having made 188 appearances under him during a seven-year stint at the Spanish club.

Arsenal will bank on Thomas Partey in Mikel Merino's absence

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has shown faith in Thomas Partey, with the midfield enforcer starting and completing 90 minutes in all three Premier League matches this season.

Despite playing a defensive role, he scored in the Gunners' 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Partey had not scored a single goal last season, making just 16 appearances for the club.

Arteta will be counting on Partey, with new signing Mikel Merino suffering an injury. Merino, signed from Real Sociedad, is set for a two-month layoff with a fractured shoulder after clashing with defender Gabriel Jesus in a training session.

The 28-year-old Spaniard, who signed for Arsenal in a deal worth £31 million, is yet to make his debut for the Gunners. He is expected to return after the next international break in October.

Barcelona target Partey is expected to partner Rice in midfield while Merino continues his recovery from the shoulder injury.
