Barcelona believe Nico Williams was forced to make video about Athletic Bilbao training return - Reports
Barcelona have reportedly accused Athletic Bilbao of forcing Nico Williams to record a video that seemingly ended speculations about the winger's future. The Spain international has been linked with a move to Barca this summer.
However, Williams was featured in a video that showed him returning to training for Bilbao and admitting that he's looking forward to the next season. He said in the clip uploaded by Athletic Bilbao:
"Can't wait to get started. I'm back. Can't wait for the season! Let's go Athletic!"
TV3 reports that Williams' current employers nudged him to make the video (via Football Espana). This would then suggest the player moving to Barcelona remains a real possibility.
Williams, who has three years left on his current contract with Bilbao, scored two goals and bagged an assist at Euro 2024 as Spain won the trophy.
The winger was brilliant last season, scoring eight goals and finishing with 19 assists in 37 appearances across competitions. A move to Camp Nou is tempting, with the Blaugrana also offering Champions League football in the upcoming season.
Moreover, Barca are considered one of the biggest clubs in the world and lack a first-choice left-winger. With Lamine Yamal having locked down the position on the right flank, the likes of Ferran Torres and Raphinha will be competing for minutes on the left side.
However, Dani Olmo, who is closing in on a deal with Barcelona from RB Leipzig, could also play the role.
Fabrizio Romano says Barcelona have come to a verbal agreement for Dani Olmo move
Fabrizio Romano claimed on his X account on Tuesday (August 6) that Barcelona have verbally agreed to a deal for Dani Olmo with RB Leipzig. According to the transfer expert, the 26-year-old will sign a six-year deal, with the Catalan giants paying €55 million and €7m in add-ons.
Romano also clarifies that Olmo himself wanted the move to Barcelona. Should the deal go through, it would be huge for the Blaugrana, given the attacker can play as a No. 10 and operate on the flanks when needed.
Olmo was also sensational for Spain in their European Championship triumph, bagging three goals and two assists in six appearances. He wasn't a starter until Pedri's injury in the quarter-finals against Germany.
