Barcelona dealt blow as Manchester City make offer to sign transfer target - Reports

Barcelona are reportedly at risk of missing out on Dami Olmo, as Manchester City have made a bid for the RB Leipzig attacker. The Spaniard is highly sought after following an impressive Euro 2024 campaign.

Foot Mercato's Santi Aouna reports that City have made their move for Olmo, with Barca needing to sell before they can recruit. The Catalans are focused on sealing Nico Williams' arrival but also want to sign their former academy prospect.

Olmo, 26, is prioritizing joining Barcelona, and the La Liga giants are pushing to sign him. The Blaugrana and the Cityzens had the chance to sign the Leipzig winger for a reported €60 million (£51 million) until five days ago. His contract had a release clause, which expired on July 20.

The 39-cap Spain international was excellent at Euro 2024, posting three goals and two assists in six games. He netted La Roja's winner in a 2-1 win against France in the semifinals before winning the tournament.

Olmo also earned plaudits at Leipzig last season, registering eight goals and five assists in 25 games across competitions. He's been with the Bundesliga giants since January 2020.

Manchester City appears to be surging ahead in the race to sign Olmo by making a concrete move. Barcelona will want to wrap up Williams' deal before turning their attention to his Spain teammate.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero reports that Barcelona intends to sign Williams and Olmo this summer. The Spanish duo are viewed as two attackers who can transform Hansi Flick's attack in a new era at Camp Nou.

Barca has an exciting crop of forwards and midfielders who mostly won Euro 2024 with Spain. Lamine Yamal, 17, was the Young Player of the Tournament, while Pedri, 21, impressed. That's not forgetting they have the young playmaker's fellow Golden Boy winner, Gavi, 19, to return from injury.

Williams, 22, just needs to give the green light for the Catalans to activate his €58 million release clause. The Bilbao winger's representatives have reportedly areed on a five-year deal for their client.

The Spanish attacker was another standout performer at Euro 2024, netting the opener in a 2-1 win against England in the final. He flourished at club level last season with eight goals and 19 assists in 37 games across competitions.
