Barcelona eye move for former Manchester City star on a free transfer - Reports

Barcelona are planning to move for Leroy Sane in 2025, according to SPORT. The German forward's contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of this season and he hasn't signed an extension yet.

Sane has been a key part of the Bavarians' squad since arriving from Manchester City in 2020. However, the 28-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena this season following the arrival of Michael Olise.

Sane has registered just four appearances across competitions for Bayern Munich this season and the Bavarians could be open to sanctioning his departure. Barcelona are keeping a close eye on his situation as they look for cost-effective options in the market.

The Catalans are long-term admirers of the German forward and attempted to prise him away two summers ago. However, the Bundesliga giants' €50m asking price proved to be a dealbreaker and the move never materialized.

The chance to sign Sane for free would certainly entice the La Liga giants, whose financial woes have been well-documented. However, the player's hefty wages could still pose a problem for Barcelona.

Sane is currently in talks with Bayern regarding a new deal although an exit looks likely. The player's lack of minutes at the club is affecting his involvement with the German national team, and that could also be a factor in his next move.

Hansi Flick could push for a reunion with Sane at Barcelona

Hansi Flick took charge at Barcelona this summer and has transformed the team into a well-oiled machine. The Catalans have won eight of their ten games this season, flourishing in the German's free-flowing attacking tactics.

Interestingly, Leroy Sane played some of his best football under Flick at Bayern Munich and the Germany national team. As such, he could be open to a reunion at Camp Nou. The Catalans were eager to sign Nico Williams this summer to strengthen their attack but failed to complete a deal.

While they are expected to return for the 22-year-old in 2025, there's likely to be a melee for his services. The La Liga giants are understandably keeping their options open and are considering Sane as an alternative.

The German forward is in his prime and can hit the ground running with a move to Barcelona. Meanwhile, Flick is well aware of the player's qualities and can help him settle in quickly in Spain. Leroy Sane could also look at the move as a means to get his career back on track.
