Barcelona keeping eye on 27-year-old ex-Real Madrid forward in summer transfer window: Reports

According to Diario AS, Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral in the summer transfer window. Mayoral currently plays for Getafe.

La Blaugrana already have Robert Lewandowski and Vitor Roque in their ranks. Roque, however, has failed to find his feet in the first half-season under Xavi. With Hansi Flick's arrival, Roque's form could change.

Barca, though, are keeping tabs on other attacking options. Getafe's Mayoral has emerged as an option. The 27-year-old had a good season with the Madrid club last season, scoring 17 goals in 31 appearances across competitions.

Mayoral has been plying his trade in the Spanish top flight for a while. He played 33 games for Real Madrid's senior team as well, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. Mayoral is a product of the Castilla academy.

Barcelona's reported interest could make the situation interesting. Mayoral is contracted with Getafe until the end of the 2026-27 season. As per Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old has an estimated market value of €15 million.

Barcelona might be following Real Madrid's transfer method

Barcelona's interest in Mayoral could be a sign that they have taken a page out of their arch-rivals' book. Real Madrid have recently abstained from spending heavily on a striker.

Rather, they brought in Joselu on loan from Espanyol. Joselu turned out to be a key player and scored important goals. He scored a late brace against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. He finished the season with 17 goals and three assists from 49 appearances across competitions.

Mayoral could turn out to be a similar signing for Barca. However, the club will only approach for a move if Vitor Roque leaves (on loan or permanent). Mayoral is an experienced striker in Spanish football. He could be a valuable bargain signing for Hanski Flick's side as Azulgrana look to start a new chapter under the German.
